Facebook has no hidden “profile visitors” list, whatever the videos and apps say. It still shares more than most people notice. This page walks through what you can check yourself and how to tell a real feature from a trick.

Does Facebook show who viewed your profile?
No. Meta’s help center says Facebook does not let you track who views your profile and that third-party apps cannot provide this (source). Meta adds that nobody gets a notice when you open their profile (source). That rule applies to every account, paid or not.
Clues Facebook does give you
Your story viewers
When you post a story, open it and select the viewers list at the bottom to see who watched and who reacted. Only you can see this list. Meta describes the steps in its story viewers guide.
Professional mode insights
If you turn on professional mode on your profile, you get a dashboard with reach, engagement and follower changes (how to turn it on). These are totals and trends, not a list of people.
Reactions, comments and shares
Anyone who reacts, comments or shares leaves their name. Looking at who interacts regularly tells you who follows your posts closely, even though silent visitors stay invisible.
Myths worth ignoring
- “People You May Know” shows your visitorsThe suggestions come from mutual friends, contacts and other signals, not from profile visits.
- A code in the page source reveals visitorsTricks based on viewing source code do not show who visited your profile.
- An app can unlock the listMeta says third-party apps cannot provide this information.
If an app promises to show your visitors
- Do not log in through it. Facebook passwords should only be typed into Facebook’s own app or website.
- Report the app or ad to Facebook, as Meta asks.
- If you already gave it access, change your password, turn on two-factor authentication and remove the app from your settings.
Keep your profile private where it matters
If the real worry is who can see your photos and posts, the useful tool is your privacy settings, which let you choose the audience for past and future posts. Meta explains the options in View and adjust your Facebook privacy settings.
If you manage a Facebook Page
Pages work differently from personal profiles. Page insights show how many people visited the Page and how many saw its posts, which helps you plan content. Meta explains this in See how many people have visited your Facebook Page. Like profile insights, these are totals; individual visitor names are not listed.
Reading your story viewers well
The viewer list is not a ranking of who looks at your profile most. Facebook orders it using its own signals, such as how you interact with people. Someone near the top is not necessarily a frequent visitor; they may simply be a close friend or someone you message often. Treat the list as a record of who watched that story, nothing more.
If you want more people to engage rather than just watch, add a question or a poll. Responses are visible to you and give a clearer signal of interest than views alone.
Professional mode, step by step
Turning on professional mode sets who can follow you to public, so consider your privacy before switching.
Where the “visitor list” myth comes from
Years ago, browser tricks and extensions circulated claiming to reveal profile visitors by reading code from Facebook pages. What they actually showed were lists of friends ranked by how Facebook expected you to interact with them, not people who had visited you. The idea stuck, and new apps and videos still repackage it. Meta’s current help center answer settles it: profile visits cannot be tracked, by you or by any app.
Signs of a phishing attempt
- A message saying someone visited your profile, with a link to “see who”.
- A login page that is not on facebook.com or inside the official Facebook app.
- Urgent warnings that your account will be closed unless you confirm your details.
- Requests for the code from your two-factor authentication text.
Facebook never needs your two-factor code from you through a message or a third-party site. If you think you entered your password somewhere suspicious, change it at once from the official app and review recent login activity in your security settings.
What your friends can see about your activity
Friends can see what you post, comment on and react to, depending on each post’s audience. They cannot see which profiles you open or how often. If you want to keep a lower profile, reacting less publicly and reviewing your activity log are more effective than any app.
Can someone with a business page see who visited it?
Page insights show totals such as visits and reach, not the names of individual visitors.
If I watch someone’s story, will they know?
Yes. Story owners can see who viewed their stories.
Does Facebook Premium or Meta Verified show profile visitors?
No. Profile visits are not shared on any plan.
