Clothes, shoes, beauty items and home goods arriving at your door without paying for them sounds like a gimmick, but it is a real, long-running program run by SHEIN itself. It is called the SHEIN Free Trial, and in the US any active account holder who is 18 or older can apply. The catch is simple: you are not guaranteed a spot, and if you are picked, you owe SHEIN an honest review.
What the Free Trial actually is
SHEIN keeps a separate catalog of products set aside for testing. Each week you can request up to three of them. An automated system picks a limited number of participants, and the ones who are chosen get the item shipped for free. In exchange, they post a detailed review with their own photos within about ten days of delivery.
For SHEIN, the payoff is real-world reviews that help other shoppers pick the right size. For you, it is a chance to try something new without spending money and to earn store points along the way.
→See how it worksThe kinds of items that show up
- ApparelDresses, tops, jeans, outerwear and activewear, usually with a size to choose.
- Shoes and accessoriesSneakers, sandals, bags, jewelry and sunglasses appear in some weeks.
- BeautyMakeup, skincare and hair tools are part of the mix from time to time.
- HomeDecor, kitchen and storage items also rotate through the catalog.
The selection changes often, so the categories above are examples, not a promise of what will be available on any given week.
How people get picked
There is no lottery ticket to buy and no follower count to hit. According to SHEIN’s own help center, the system weighs a few things:
- whether your account and past Free Trial participation are in good standing;
- how many testing spots are open that week, which is always limited;
- whether you followed through on earlier trials by posting the review.
In practice, an account that is used regularly, applies every week and finishes every review tends to do better than a brand-new account that applies once and gives up.
Habits that help your odds
- Use all three weekly requestsUnused chances do not roll over to the next week.
- Pick your real sizeOnce an order is created, the size and address cannot be changed.
- Keep your address currentThe storefront you shop on and your delivery country need to match.
- Finish every review on timeSkipping one can hurt your chances in future rounds.
What is free and what might not be
| Item | Who covers it |
|---|---|
| Applying | Free, inside your SHEIN account |
| The product | Free if you are selected; you keep it after a successful review |
| Shipping | Covered by SHEIN |
| Customs or import duties | Paid by the participant, if any are charged |
| Your time | A review with photos within about 10 days of delivery |
- Applying never costs money. Anyone asking for a fee to “reserve” a product is not SHEIN.
- Requests are made from your own SHEIN login, through the app or the site.
- A message saying you won something you never requested is a red flag.
Quick answers
Do I need a big social media following?
No. The program is built around regular shoppers. An active, accurate account matters more than an audience.
Is there an age requirement?
Yes. On the US site, participants must be at least 18 years old.
Does everyone who applies get something?
No. Spots are limited every week, and many people request the same items.
Can I apply again after a successful trial?
Yes. You can keep applying every week, and completing your reviews keeps your record in good shape.
